New Umrah Visa Regulations and Travel Criteria for 2020 and 2021

NB: Due to the implications of Covid-19 and restricted quotas, all Umrah visas (until further notice) will be issued through approved agents only, which means you cannot travel on a tourist visa.

With phase 3 of the reopening now in full swing, who can now perform for Umrah from November 2020 onwards?

As it currently stands, only those aged between 18 and 50 years old can apply via an approved Umrah agent.

Are PCR tests mandatory before travel?

International pilgrims must provide a negative printed PCR test result (also known as a fit-to-fly certificate) in English or Arabic (from verified laboratories). This test must be performed 72 hours prior to arriving in Saudi Arabia.

A further PCR test is required in Saudi Arabic once 48 hours have elapsed from arrival.

Will I be required to quarantine upon arrival?

Yes, one of the conditions of the Umrah visa is that your Umrah package is inclusive of a three day quarantine period at your hotel in Makkah or Madinah (with full board). Umrah agents will be tasked with arranging ground transport throughout the trip, with a maximum of 25 pilgrims allowed in one coach at a time.

Is it true you cannot visit Masjid al-Haram or Masjid an-Nabawi without booking it in advance?

Yes, with the help of your Umrah agent, all visits (including Umrah etc.) will need to be booked on the I’tamarna app. All pilgrims must also download two further apps called “Tawakkalna” and “Tetamman” in which, residence locations must be updated within 8 hours of arrival.

Are there any restrictions based on country or region??

Yes, Saudi Arabia are not allowing international pilgrims who are from - or who in the last 14 days have visited - India, Brazil, or Argentina. Official government invitees are exempted.
