The Importance of Visiting the Prophet ﷺ

The visit to the Prophet ﷺ after his ﷺ psychical demise is like the one has visited him ﷺ during his ﷺ blessed life.

Thus, whomever is blessed with presenting themselves in the sacred court of the Prophet ﷺ should have an understanding of the tremendous significance and the wonderful fortune of this sacred visit. A windfall of the greatest rewards and blessings has come your way.

Visiting the Prophet ﷺ is of great benefit, as the intercession of the Prophet ﷺ becomes necessary for you. The scholars have mentioned that this will occur once you set your eyes on the blessed Green Dome.

Guests of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

The fact that you are on the way to Madinah speaks for itself. You will shortly be arriving as a neighbour of the Prophet ﷺ. Truly a great honour with untold benediction. The Prophet ﷺ made du’a for this noble city and asked for Madinah to have twice the blessings bestowed on Makkah.

Upon reaching Madinah you should now make the intention of being his ﷺ neighbour, even if this is for one day. The Prophet ﷺ preferred living in Madinah over living in Makkah.

Aim high and become ambitious, caring only about the hereafter and the Day of Judgement. Make this your only worry.

The Etiquette Needed With the Prophet ﷺ

The adab needed with the Prophet ﷺ stems from the heart. Do you know him ﷺ? Do you know his ﷺ rank and his ﷺ station? Are you aware of his ﷺ importance? Are you aware of how much Allah honoured him ﷺ? Are you aware of his ﷺ favours upon you? Are you aware of what he ﷺ did for you in the past? Are you aware of what he ﷺ will be doing for you in the future?

If you are not aware of these things then you will not benefit a great deal from your visit. Hence, it is important to increase your knowledge of the Prophet ﷺ, which will in turn enhance your relationship with him ﷺ – giving you a much greater attachment.

You should also consider fulfilling the adab of the outward (i.e. your appearance). Before you greet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, perform ghusl. This should be done every time you intend to present yourself to the best of creation (it is sunnah to perform ghusl before entering Madinah).

Wear the best clothes you have; apply itr; on Fridays wear all white; cover your head; men should let their beards grow, and ensure you are looking your best.
